Mellor Globetrotters
The league season started with a 3-1 home win for the Firsts against Rochdalians at Wood Lane and a 2-3 reverse for the Seconds away against Droylsden (although the match was played in Brabyns Park). Jonny Cooke, Carl Brindley and Rob White scored for the Firsts. Josh Wilson and Jonny Cooke shared the Man of the Match award. There were good performances also from Rob White and Dave Moss. The Seconds' goals were scored by Rick Axford and Ian Arnfield. Cody Wharton had a very good game in goal. But we are still in the holiday season and players are coming and going, some to exotic locations. Andy Given is off to Thailand on September 17th for nearly three months. (I wonder if he has seen Hangover 2). He might ask some tips of Matt Brady (pictured pointing below right) who has just returned from there and visited a Full Moon Party. Matt is off to university in September so his appearances for Mellor this season will be limited. Meanwhile Ryan Yates returns on November 4th from his extended stay in Canada. Adam Barlow spent the summer in the USA coaching in a soccer camp. They must have pretty weird rules out there (or unruly kids) judging from Adam's kit (see picture, below left).
